The U.S. Secret Service at 12:08 PM today via Twitter, said that its personnel "are responding to reports of a person who allegedly suffered a self-inflicted gun shot wound along the north fence line of @Whitehouse." The Secret Service followed with an update stating that: "...No other reported injuries..." occurred, but that pedestrian and vehicular traffic around the White House "...is being impacted due to the incident..."
CNN's Cathy Milhoan reported that the victim had suffered a single gunshot wound and that the Secret Service personnel had not fired any shots.
According to Andrew Buncombe of the "Independent," the White House was placed on lock down and the President was not in the building when the incident occurred. "...He was at his estate in Florida, at Mar-a-Lago, where he was seen in golfing gear ..." as agents in and medical personnel in Washington were "...attending to the man..." (who allegedly shot himself).
An NBC report by Stacey Klein and Phil McCausland says that the Secret Service told those in the White House to shelter in place around 11:30 a.m. and that, as they investigated the incident "...agents could be seen sprinting across the north lawn and the executive driveway with their guns drawn..."
Klein/ McCausland reported that "...The shelter in place order was lifted after approximately 45 minutes..." and that "...As a precaution, the Secret Service shutdown all roads along the White House perimeter..." and that "... Traffic around the White House was impacted by the order ..."
